About Us

Hollow Leg Theater is the production arm of… no, it’s the production leg of… no, let’s be honest: Hollow Leg Theater is a thin veneer of professionalism over the efforts of me, Alan Brooks, to write and produce material, mostly comic, but sometimes dark, that I find entertaining.

I am based in Woodstock, NY, in the beautiful Hudson Valley, and split my time between here and NYC. As of midway through 2025, I have a couple self-published science-fiction books available on Amazon, and a children’s book published by Scholastic and illustrated by the great Steven Kellogg. You can check out my author’s page at Amazon, here.

Alan Brooks finds a half-inflated balloon in Central Park.

I recently finished a series of short, comic plays called “Coupling”, one of which we shot as the film, “Catching The Sun”, released in mid-2025 with an all-Hudson Valley cast and crew – you can read see some snippets and on-set photos on the project’s Facebook page.

In early 2019 another play from “Coupling” was accepted into the Strawberry One-Act Festival and had it’s off-Broadway debut in the spring. We advanced to the festival’s semi-finals, had a great time and I got to work with the amazing director Sarah Cook, and 6 fantastic actors.

The 2020-2021 pandemic was a great opportunity to write, so the short plays just keep on coming, along with a few that seem to want to be longer. You just have to follow the characters as far as they want to go.

2024 saw 5 of the Coupling plays done at the Phoenicia Theater, in Phoenicia, NY, an experimental piece “Curtain Call” done at the Black Box festival in Park Slope, put on by the Gallery Players, and other stagings in Ashville, NC, Connecticut and Woodstock, NY. We shot the movie “Lift” in 2025, and completed post-production on my film “Catching the Sun” in May 2025..
